Spring Sonnet

leaves fall before pollen
tassels drop yellow
on walkways    patios    cars

bluebonnets line Texas roads
yellow flowers dot ditches
the girl dances in orange

we rake clumps of sod    dump all
in a sandy pit    a mother's fault
he did ask what else was needed &

it takes wine to cure    sitting on steps
where someone painted DOVE
it might mean LOVE or

the crazy bird that coos in the morning
while I wait for you to wake
